Andersonville Prisoner of War Camp
Why did so many Union prisoners die at Andersonville. Who do you think was responsible? Why? Captain Henry Wirz is often called "the last casualty of Andersonville." Do you agree or disagree? Was Wirz a victim of Andersonville, or the person responsible for so many deaths? What does it mean to be responsible?

So many people died at Andersonville because there was a shortage in food. We think no one was to blame for all the deaths at Andersonville because it wasnt on purpose. We think captian Henry Wirz was a victim because he was just doing his job and he is not the one who should be blamed for all the causualties. Too us responsibility is being able too own up to a problem or difficult situaion.

To act mature when u do something wrong or deal with a situation that is bad. "12,912 died from disease, malnutrition, overcrowding, or exposure. They were buried in shallow trenches, shoulder to shoulder, in a crude cemetery near the prison". Wirz was arrested and charge with conspiring to impair and injure the health and destroyed the lives of federal prisons. I agree.

2. The people who are responsible for all those death is the prisoner guards, because they are the ones who were watching them.

Union prisoners died in Andersonville because there wasn't enough food and shelter. General William T. Sherman was responsible because the Union calvery threatened the Andersonville security. And the prisoners were moved to other camps. Captain Henery Wirz was charged with "impair and injure the health and destroy the live of federal prisoners" , "murder inviolation of the laws of war."

1) Many Union prisoners died at Andersonville because of disease, malnutrition, overcrowding, or exposure.
Who we think is responsible is no one because it was too out of hand for anyone to handle and it wasn't even planed to capture any prisoner during this war.
We agree ,because he was the last death of people that were apart of the Andersonville prison of war camp in November 10, 1865.
Wriz was the person who was blamed for so many deaths of Union prisoners. Being responsible means taking action for your own mistakes/actions.

They died from disease, malnutrition, overcrowding, or exposure. The south's goverment is held responsible. The reason i say they are held responsible is because they had no food to give to the prisoners. I think he was because i think he was there scape goat. Same as last sentence. It means you take care of everyone. If you get in trouble you take the blame.

1] Union prisoners had been killed at Andersonville; one reason was because the campsite had received a deadline and if any union passed the deadline they would be shot and killed. Also because the confederate wasn’t able to provide food, shelter, clothing, and medical care to the leaders.
2] The person that was held responsible was Captain Henry Wirz, because he had killed the union soldiers.
3] I agree because the war might have been over when he was hanged.

So many prisoners died in Andersonville because of diseases, shortage of food, overcrowding of the camp ,and exposure to the sun. Captain Henry Wirz was to blame because he was tin charge of the camp. He could have stopped prisoners from dying. It was also the confederate governments fault because they couldn't provide housing, food, clothing, and supplies for the prisoner. We agree because he was part of the camp too during November 10,1865. He is not a victim because he killed prisoners too. being responsible means to take duty for your own mistake and action.

So many prisoners died at Andersonville because of disease, malnutrition, overcrowding, and exposure. The person responsible for these deaths in my opinion was Captain Henry Wirz. The reason why is because, he was the commandant of the prison, so he cold have made the prison a better place for the prisoners. We agree, that Captain Henry Wirz was the last casualty of Andersonville, because he was the last to die. He was responsible for many deaths because he might at least protect the prisoners; they still have right of freedom. Responsible means that you take the consequences for your actions. Even if it is bad it is you responsibility to make is better.

I disagree he couldn't get the medicine, food and the supplies if he wanted to.He was a victim because it could have been anybody who was keeping the soldiers there. To be responsible is to have something in control.

Hey im Josh and I think that Captain Henry Wirz is not to blamed for this crises that happened. He just did his job,and that was to watch over the prisoners. When the place got over populated then he had no control over the fact that all of the prisoners were dying of disease and malnutrition because the confederate army didn't have enough food to feed the prisoners and all of their soilders so the prisoners weren't feed often.
