I didn't see that anyone else helped him out. Katherine Greene gave him shelter yes but she did not give him the idea or anything. The slaves did not help either,and even if they did have the idea why didn't they invent it if it was there idea. The southern planters story a lie. It wasn't used before or wasn't made out of nowhere if it was why didn't they invent it before Eli this makes no sense.

Luis- I believe the southerners deserve recognition for the invention of the cotton gin. Since they had many unsuccessful attempts at actually creating the cotton gin they still thought of this idea before Eli Whitney. The African Americans only had a brush to start with and Catharine Greene only contributed towards the the machine not create it. It is possible Eli Whitney stole this idea. He also failed at having the cotton gin taking out the seeds too, remember...
Ashley- The Slaves were whom really invented the cotton gin because even though their "invention" was pretty much just brushing(combing through) the cotton to get rid of the seeds;the other claimed inventors of the cotton gin would probably not have had the idea of the cotton gin. The slaves really invented the cotton gin. The slaves were probably really tired of picking out seeds individually. Having time when they are not occupied on the plant farms, the slaves created an easier way to do it. They were not allowed to go and get a patent, they couldn't because they were colored.
Most likely Eli Whitney stole the idea or semi-cotton gin and went out to get a patent.
Catherine Green only did 5% of what Eli Whitney supposivly did. She only got the idea and fixed it. She did not invent it.

- The southern planter's are the ones how invented the cotton gin. They started the idea of cleaming the cottons, but others wanted to profect it. Whiney was one of those 'OTHERS'. He made the mishean work, that's all he did. He got the idea in how to fix it by Catharine Greene's action in the fireplace, and how the slves wanted something to be able to clean the cotton faster. So he only developed some things together, and was able to make the cotton gin. But the truth is the southern planters invented the cotton gin, becouse their the once how started it all.
