Black Codes
In the aftermath of the Civil War, the Southern states passed a series of "Black Codes" that restricted the rights and opportunities for the freed slaves. With you partner, review the handout containing excerpts from the 1865 Mississippi Black Codes. For each of the sections, put the main idea of the law into your own words.

1. no blacks could married white people or the were convected of a felony or they would be in jail for life!
2. on the second Monday of January all blacks would have to have these to things witch were lawful home or employment and to prove it they had two have a written statement.
3.they had two give up all the money they made from working with there owner's!
4.the manger writes a letter saying that the freed man left there job and then send it to the judge and then they'll give them a warrent!
5. it is the job of the sheriffs two report any freed men that are under the age of 18 and have no parents must be send to the orphaning!
6. that they would apprentice any minor that has no family!
7. the person that the minor was working four could beaten them just as a father would do two his child!
8.any black over the age of 18 that had no job after Monday in January 1866 would be charged a 50$ fine!
9. any slave that did not have a job after Monday January had 5 days to find a job and if could not pay the fine the sheriffs would find a jod for them && the blacks would not get the money! the money would go two the fine they owned!

1.Africans could'ent get married with a white people if that law was broken they would spend life in jail.
2.An African American would have proof of a job and a house.
3.If an African American that worked for a white person more than a month would have to be in writing and if shall quit shoud forfiet all his wages.
4.the ex-slave must have proof of working legally being employed by an employer.
5. orphans would go to court an the judge would give them a job to do and learn without pay

Section 1. If a African American married a White person they would be put in prison for life!
Section 2. An African American should have a home & a job by the 2nd monday of January 1866 & have proof.
Section 3. If An African American has a contract with a white person & the African quits before expiration date his money goes to the white person.
Section 4.If the african american quits their job, the police get to arrest them.
Section5. If police find african americans under the age of 18 who are orphans or whos parents dont provide for them, the court shall find someone who will provide for them.

1.)That the african americans could be back but married and they can not marry any white women and if they did they would go to prison for life
2.) The African Americans on the second Monday of Janurary in 1866 would have to house and prove of thier house.
3.) The African Americans have one month and quit within the one month they will not get paid.
4.) They had a law that they could not leave thier jobs without warrents.
5.) The police says that Africans American under the age of 18 who are orphans and take then to court and make then helpers.
6.) THe court says the African Americns would have to be an assistant and the master would have to take care of him.
7.) The master or mistress could hit thier assistant.

Section 1: It is okay for negores to marry as long as it isnt being married with a white person. Anybody whodoes that will be sent to prison/jail.
Section 2: Any mulatto/negro/ freedman may have a house and job after the second Monday of January 1866.
Section 3: All the contracts for the labor for the free negreoes and mulattoes for a longer time and if hey quite before their experation date he should forfeit his wages for that year and teh tme they quit.
Section 4: The written statement made by any freedman, free negroes or mulatto that is legally emplyed deserted said employment and the judge should issue a warrant or warrants..
Section 5: Its the responsiblity for all the sheriffs to report inderaged mulattos/ negroes/ freedmen to look fr responsiblity for them.
Section 6: The orphan childeren will take be taken to a court and then the court will apprentice them.
Section 7: A guardian has full control of their chid.
Section 8: All negroes/mulattos/freedman over the age of eighteen must have a job after the seond monday of January 1866, if not they must pay 50 dollars.
Section 9: If the freedman owe a fien the sherriff will find them a job and the money that they will get they will give it and pay there fien.

Section 1, a negro can't marry a white person or else they will go to jail for life.
Section 2, a negro should have a Home or an Employment on the second Monday of January, as written evidence.
Section 3, they would have to quit the employers job before the expiration of the term of the services.
Section 4, an employer has illegally the power with an warrant or warrants.
Section 5, the parent or parents has to support the minor and tell nothing but the truth, as the court may direct.
Section 6, the court said that they would say the truth and they would help and care for them, fully protected..
Section 7, a guardian or father is allowed to infliction on his or her child.
Section 8, if an eighteen year old negro doesn't finds a job on the second Monday of January they would be charged fifty dollars..
Section 9, if an negro fails to work for 5 days they will be payed the same, less periods of services they would pay fine and forfeiture and all costs they make...

#1)if a aferican american marry a white person the will guilty of felony and the state will give them prison for life.

problem goes to the judge and gets a document of the person.
#5)that the police shall report all african american that are under 18 and are orphan or there parant dont want to take care of there child it will be the juge to get minor and give it to some one who could take care of the kid.
