Lincoln's Gettysburg Address

With your partner, answer the following questions about the Gettysburg Address, November 19, 1863:

2.When all the people are one and not over some stronger tan others the country would be weak.

2. When Lincoln says the United States was born "dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal" he referred that when America started, all people were promised equality, but they weren't specific about who exactly had rights and who didn't.
3. According to Lincoln the Civil War was testing "whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure."
4. Lincoln says that the purpose of the Civil War is "for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced." He wants them to realize that the purpose of the Civil War is to get equal rights for all.
5. "It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain- that this nation under God, shall have a new birth of freedom- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Lincoln thinks that if the North loses the Civil War, the soldiers that fought for the North would have died in vain and the United States will no longer be the same United States as they knew it.

1, It equals 87 years because he says 4 score and 7 years and if u multiply 20 times 4 its 80 and then add 7 years its 87.

4.'We have come to dedicate a portion of that feild,as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.' He means that they should continue because they would have been fighting for nothing.
5.According to Lincoln'this nation,under god,shall have a new birth of freedom-and that government of the people,by the people,for the people,shall not perish from earth. He means if the noth loosesthe democracy will die.

The year that he takes us back is 1776 because thats when the Declaration of Independance was signed and thats when we freed ourselves from the British. What
Lincoln meant when he said that quote was that their shouldn't be any slaves and all men are created equal. The civil war was testing to see if the Nation could survive the war.
