2. If Mann was still alive we suggest that he changes VIOLENCE because there is a lot of drama and problems in school. He would also change the fact that they are budget cutting our school money. Schools aren't getting things like textbooks, or money to fund for field trips. We think he would also change the teachers, so that way when there is a problem between the students, the teachers wouldn't blame one person to solve the problem. The teachers would listen to the students.

I think that it was interesting that Mann in the 1830s viewed public schools very differently than Jefferson and Madison did in 50 years earlier. Jefferson felt that education was necessary for citizens, informed voters. Mann said education was necessary for economic progress, factory jobs that required workers to follow directions. What do you think that the main purpose of public schools should be?
