1.Working in the mills was a negative experience for the women because some of them had suicidal thoughts and killed themselves. 2. Another reason why it was a negative experience was because many women lost their sence of hearing because of all of the machines working all at once. 3. the last reason why it was bad was because thier health were bad because of all of the cotton fiber getting in their lungs.
it was negative experience because a lot of girls got hurt some even died and it was hard for them to breath because of the cotton. it was a positive too because they were supported to they had shelter an food an they were secured their so no guys can go in their to do something to the girls.
1.)it was a negative experience because all the mill girls were killing themselves of their monotonous life(two suicides.....lowwell offering),they would work 10-12 hours for 6 days(female workers of lowell), and no mill girl would be happy because their feet would ache and they would swell(letter to susan...lowell offering).
Working in the mills was a negative experience. Because they worked for eight years and sometimes they got sick, ( source: Massachusettes investigation into labor conditions). Or the woman are exhausted so much,(source: "females workers of lowell", the harbinger)
According to us, we thought that working at Lowell Mills was a negative experience to many people meaning the "Mill Girls". We thought it wa a bad and negaiv experience becasue there was a girl who comitteded sucuicide becaue she was tired and ehaustded of the job. Our source to this was "Two Sucuicides Lowell Offering in 1844. We also thought that working at the Mills was wrin becasue thee were 130 gils that just wanted to work 10hours, and were very tired and they worked 6days a week and on Sundays went to church. And so tey never rested. Our surce was "Lowell Offereing 1845"
1.Working in the Lowell Mills was a negative experience. According to the "Two Suicides" two girls commited suicides because they coudnt take working there anymore. According to the "Massachussets Investigation" Miss Sarah G.Bagely said her health started to fail. She started a pettition that they would like to work only 10 hours a day. Lastley in the letter from mary paul to her fther said they would only get paid $6.60 and more than half of that went to rent.

Working in the Lowell Mills is a negative experience for the mill girls because they had two suicides, they worked thirteen hours per day they were exhausted and wor out, also workless hours, nobody was always happy working.
In our opinion working at the lowell mills was negative because for one they had to work 14 hours a day. they also wok up very early and stayed up almost all day which made them very tired an gave them less energy to work more hours. They also only had one day of rest which they had to go to church which was manditory!
The second reason i think working at the Lowell Mills was a negative experience was because they had to do the same thing everyday whch made the women and children very bored with there lives which led to suicide.
The third reason i think working at the Lowell Mills was a negative experience was because when children were very young they had to work at the Lowell Mills and they didnt get paid a lot, they also got hurt and didnt even get to experience there youthness.
1.It was a negative experience because some women died by a disease that started by some of the thread got into the air and the women started breathing it.
2. There was also too much noise and the women did the same thing over and over again for six days and went to church on Sunday.
3. Two women killed themselves because all they did was the same thing over and over again and they were not happy with that so the killed themselves because they couldn't handle it.

Being a worker at the Lowell Mills was probably a negative experience for you. Your health would be very poor. Since you're standing up all day working at a loom your feet would get swollen (Letter from Susan, Lowell Offering). Imagine that you are standing up for eleven hours with only a short time to eat your food. (Massachusetts Investigation Into Labor Conditions). Your life would also be very boring, very monotonous. There were 2 cases of suicide, because the girls were always very tired of doing the same thing, over and over. They had no hope. (Two Suicides, Lowell Offering).
Esmeralda V. Sandra C. Per:3 The girls workig inthe mills had a negatie expeiece. The girls were always tired at the end of te work day and they had to wake up super early to work again. There job was monotous they did the same thing evry day exept sunday that was there break day. To support that this was a negitive experience. In document C, The Lowell Offering was a article that two girls commited suiside, suiside is when your take your own fe away. The girls took there ife away because they were bored to death always doing the same thing. In document E . The lowell offering lerer from susan, usan said the girls were tired in pain. Document D The Harbinger the factorys are taking humans souls away. This is why workig in the mills was a very negative experience .
Stephanie D. & Hugo S. p.3rd Working at the Lowell Mills was mostly negative for the girls. Even though they were given food and clothing, their daily routine was monotonus. They also weren't happy, which might have lead to sucides. The loud noises made by the machines may have also caused hearing problems. P3 Joselyn C. & Anaid R. We think working at the Lowell Mill is a negative experience. Well because there has been lots of accidents and many people do not get paid enough. For example in document C a women killed herself because she thought that her life was to boring because they had done the same thing everyday. In document D a women worked many hours day and she had been exhausted from it and she also had bad health. In document F they had worked there for many years and they have become very ill so they represented a petition to stop it.

•Working in the Lowell Mills was a negative experience for the Mills girls. One of the reasons why it was a bad experience was because the girls monotonouslife and they didnt get payed enough. Another reaon was because some girls were depressed and cpmmited siucide.
Working in the Lowellvoffering was a bad job . Here are the reason why their job was bad . One is that twos ladys themsevels becaused they had NO HOPE . The other reason is that the ladys work for long hous and where very tried at the end of the day . onbody is happy ver happy with the job they have . There health does last for ever . So this are the reason why the Lowell Offering was a bad job .
It was a posistive thing for the girls to work at the mills because they would have 6 days of work. they would have to go to church because it was required. they were all well dresses and healthy in apperance and they had manners and extreme cleanliness.
Working at Lowell Mills was a tough experience positive for Mills girl's .they got to work six day a week and got paid six or seven dollar.also they got to learn manner to be polite and responsiblebecause they got to go to church which teaches you how to live well like god want's you to live.that was a good place because they got a house to live in and riceved food. Our souce document Lowell mill's ,dickenson american Notes , female worker of lowell mill .
1.Thesis Statement: Document a is postive but should change the idea of 6 days/week at work it shoul be 5 days/week for work. They should have one day off.
P.3 Alan Perez, Javier Cernas I think that the mill girls shouldn't work there because there is so many hours and it gets tiring . They do the same routine everyday and two of the girls eeven commitided suicide because they couldn't hadle it . Two suicidesLowell Oferring Lowell Ofering Charles Dickens American Notes
1.Thesis Statement: Document a is postive but should change the idea of 6 days/week at work it shoul be 5 days/week for work. They should have one day off.
I think woking at the lowell mills was a bad thing. I think it was bad becuase they would have o work all day for 13 hours. 6 days a week. the day that the would not go to work is on a sunday. on sudays they had to go to chuch. they sead that it would help they mor kind an that it well help there spirt.
We think that it is both negative and positive influence because, there were Three positive and three negative.Like in negative experience there was,Two suicides Lowell offering in 1844. Two young woman killed themselves by jumping off the canal in the river.A positive experince would be Lowell offering 1845 Same routine for six days straight and on Sunday day they would rest by going to church.
1: "The Lowell Offering 1845" Samething everyday, 6 days, sunday they go to Mandatory Church makes her kindness and hepls her spririt. +positive 2: "Charles Dickens, American Notes 1842" The girls were all well dressed. They were extreme clealiness. They had servicable bonnets. They were healthy i appearence and manners. +positive 3: "Two suicides lowell offering 1844" women had commet a suicide because they were tired of working and had a monotonus likfe and saw no hope. -Negative
e.reyes s.lopez p.4 yes it was a positive thing the workers had madatory chuch on sunday for spritual support if it was todays tme the boss wouldnt care if someonebelieves in god or not. although there was some bad things involved too but like charles dickens metioned''there was goodness in them.'' so lowell mills gave them class.
1. It was a negative experience because they had to work 16 hours for 6 days. it was also negative because two young girls committed suicide. They could also only relax on sundays which was not good.
stephen calderon p4 5/18 people would have to wake up really early and they will have their breakfast and lunch some women had died and all day you have to make sure the machines dont get messed up or the thread. other factories girls were well dressed extreme cleaniness healthy and had good manners
I think it was a negative experience for the mill girls because according to the documents that we read most of the girls there had a bad experience with their lives. for example, two girls disliked their lives so much working there that they ended up commiting suicide because they had no hope left with their lives and were so sick and tired of working there at the mill and the sorce for that is "Two suicides" Lowell Offering in 1844. . Another girl's health was failing because of her job at the mill and that was the Massachusetts Investigation Into Labor Conditions in 1845.
Diana Ramos & Daniel Macias P.4 1). There were positive and negative expierences because one of the lady that were working there said that it was a good expierence to work in the mills. and the negative expierences were that some people actually lost there hearing. there were also respectfuland polite because they went to church every sunday.
A source[Lowell offering] Samething everyday 6days Sunday MANDATORY church makes her kind helps her spirit B source[charles dickens]well dressed extreme cleaning healthy, manners C source[two suicide] 2 female suicide had no hope D source[female worker of Lowell] they are tired everyday and theres a lot of noise E SOURCE[Letter from susan ]that no one is happy 24 hours 7 days a week F SOURCE[MASSAchusattes investigation into labor conditions]health the girls made a pettion to work only 13 hours G source[letter to marypaul to her father] shes happy in her jod
I think that working in the mills is a posative thing because the girls were very well tooken care of and because they were provided food, and shelter. they also whent to church on sundays to become a better person and have a better attidue towards things.
1. Was working at Lowell Mills a positive or negative experience for the "mills girls" of the 1840s? Be sure to cite at least 3 primary sources in your answer.
I think that it was both positive because they had to go to church witch made them polite and respectful. I also think it was negative because they could have deft and they only did one thing every single day. I think it was mostly negative.
It was negative to be a mill girl in the 1840's because women got tired a lot. Some girls died because they were so tired. They also were away fro their families.
per. 6 - Juan B. and Brenda F. Working at Lowell Mills was a negative experience for the "mill girls" because they were over worked ("Female Workers of Lowell" The Harbinger, 1836), there were two suicides because they were unhappy ("Two Suicides", Lowell Offering, 1844), and were forced to work the same job for six days straight (Lowell Offering, 1845).
Working at the mills was positive but at times it was negative. It was positive because they were well fed, dessed properly, and it was clean. Also because going to church every sunday made them peaceful. But it is also negetive because they worked to much and their health might be affected. they also had little time to eat, which in there opinion wasn't good. they also worked so long while standing up all day.
In our opinion working at Lowell Mills was a negative experience for the "mill girls".We think so because The Harbinger saw that when they saw the girls in the mills when they had their time off that they where really exhausted and fatigued. And also in the Lowell offering newspaper said that two girls killed themselves, and i think being around women who are depressed and some suicidal is a negative thing.
working in the lowell mill is negative, because it did not have good working condition, and most of the women working there were not happy. Some proof is from "The Lowell Offering" it was showing how much they despised there job, the went to there last resort, suicide. Another reason was MA investigation into labor conditions, it was a document in which they were describing the working conditions of the girls.
Working at the Lowell mills was a positive experience for the "mill girls". The workers were well dressed and they had good manners because they went to church (American Notes). The workers were very enthusiastic to begin work. They had good food, good clothes, made their own money, and got to go to church ( Mary Paul Letters). Lastly, the work was considered hard, but they got used to it and began to enjoy it (Letters to Susan).
Nancy C. & Muriel P. Per.6 1. Working in Lowell Mills Was most negative. Most of the girl's letters were a positive document. But most of the research said that it's negative. The Massachusettes Investigation said that the girls work to much. "Two Suicide" was about the two women that drowned themselves in the canal due to work. Then "Susan" wrote a letter saying that her feet ache when she does home, because of the long work hours.
The experiences seemed to have been positive. Many girls liked to work there, because they had a good job,a home, church, and always food.
Many girls liked the conditions and said so themselves, like the "Lowell Offering". They descirbed their job there as " the path to heaven."
Just like the girls outsiders also thought that the factory was a very good place. Charels dickens . he descirbes the girls and their apppearences as being " healthy in apperence."
But even the girls themselves were enthusiatic about working there. Marry Paul being one of the girls working there would happily say how much she loves it there."I would recomend it to other Girls,""being paid $6.60."
We think that working at the Mills was a negative experience for the "mill girls'' of 1840 because in Document C source:"Female Workers of Lowell'' it said that a young lady from the city visited the girls and had a conversation with one of the mill girls and the mill girl had told her that it was a very exhausting job, they get only two meals a day,and very little sleep and asked the visitor if she had any advice for her but the only thing that the visitor said was,"I can tell you of nothing, but to throw yourself into the canal.'' In Document D the mill girls complain about the work they do and it gets them very tiring,"So fatigued."
Jasmin R. & Michael N. per.6 1. It was a negative thing to be working in the Lowell Mills because their was a death of two girls .They both suicided themselves. The women also had to work for 13 hour and they were so fatigued and exhausted .They would have to work all day and then they eat at half past 7 and go back to work after. "Two Suicides,"Lowell Offering "Female Workers of Lowell" "Letter from Susan"
For some girls Lowell was perfect, but for others it was dreadful. The Lowell Offering made it seem like a perfect factory with the same routines, working 6 days per week, and going to a church that had a type of feel good vibe. Charles Dickens wrote the book American Notes and stated that American factories had women that were well mannered and the factory was extremely clean. Overall, Lowell factories were a good expierience for mill girls.
For the mill girls it was a positive and negative experiance. Some girls enjoyed working and getting payed, like mary from "letter from marry to her father" she said that she was happy getting payed $6.68. It was also a negative experiance because it affected your health. In "Massachusetts Investigation" it sates that Sarah's health is failing due to her job,she worked 8 and half years. So some girls are satisfied with working while others dont like it
Working at Loell Mills was a positive experience for the "mils girls" of the 1840's. -I think this was a positive experiene because they liked the work better than workng at the farm and it was better for tem to leave the farm and experience nw things (Letter form Mary Paul to her father 1845)
-Workng at the mills was also a positive experience for them because they liked that everyone was well behaved , clean , and healthy and he mil ws clean (Charles Dickens American Notes 1842)
-This was a good experience because they were religious and had a good spirit because they went to church and stayed out of trouble (Lowel Offering 1845)

We think that working in Lowell Mills was a positive thing for the girls. According to Mary Paul's letter, she thought that working at the mills was the best place to work in.She would recommend to other girls to work at the Lowell Mills,Another thing that Charles Dickens said when he went too Lowell Mills was that all the women were dressed well, well mannered, they were healthy in appearance, and they were really clean. We have many sources that women though working at the Lowell Mills was a positive thing.
Working in the millswas a negative experience for the mill grls because it was too many work hours, said the"Letter From Susan,'Lowell Offering". They worked six days a weekalso said "Lowell Offering" and there were two suicides reported the "Lowell Offering".
Working in the mills for the mill girls were positive and negative experiences. In Charles Dickens "American Notes" 1842, he states that the mills are in perfect condition. They are very clean and the girls look very healthy and it was a positive experience for the girls. In "Two Suicides" Lowell Offering 1844 It states that 2 girls died and it was a negative experience for the girls. In the Lowell Offering in 1845 says that the girls do the exact same thing 6 days a week which is negative, BUT it also says that they make them go to church on Sundays and its better than home so thats positive.

& Hugo S. p.3rd
Working at the Lowell Mills was mostly negative for the girls. Even though they were given food and clothing, their daily routine was monotonus. They also weren't happy, which might have lead to sucides. The loud noises made by the machines may have also caused hearing problems.

Working at Lowell's was a negative experience for the
"mills girls" in 1840 beacsue they got paid very little.
-One of the negative things was that there was suicide's abd they had no hope!
-Something else that was negative was that they worked for 13 hours 6days a week.
-They also signed a petition that they would perfer to work but ten hours a day,6days a week.

1). There were positive and negative expierences because one of the lady that were working there said that it was a good expierence to work in the mills. and the negative expierences were that some people actually lost there hearing. there were also respectfuland polite because they went to church every sunday.

Stephanny S. and Stephanie O. P.6
Christian C. & Joob Giron
Alexander M. & Andrea O. per.6
working in the lowell mill is negative, because it did not have good working condition, and most of the women working there were not happy. Some proof is from "The Lowell Offering" it was showing how much they despised there job, the went to there last resort, suicide. Another reason was MA investigation into labor conditions, it was a document in which they were describing the working conditions of the girls.
Michael B. & Misael G. P.6
Nancy C. & Muriel P. Per.6
Nemesis D. & J.C.B- Period 6.
Leslie B. & Nathalie G. Period 6
Jasmin R. & Michael N. per.6
1. It was a negative thing to be working in the Lowell Mills because their was a death of two girls .They both suicided themselves. The women also had to work for 13 hour and they were so fatigued and exhausted .They would have to work all day and then they eat at half past 7 and go back to work after.

-"two suicides,"Lowell offering"
The schedule of the girls made them very tired and sick.

Alan Rodriguez and Cynthia Gonzalez P:6

-Workng at the mills was also a positive experience for them because they liked that everyone was well behaved , clean , and healthy and he mil ws clean
(Charles Dickens American Notes 1842)
